Buying Cannabis CBD products is now legal in South Africa, while THC products have to be grown and used personally and can not be sold. All well and said but what is CBD, what is THC and what are they good for?

Cannabis plants have thousands of variations and each plant is unique in its effects and what it treats best. It is important to understand what you hope to achieve health wise, to best be able to select your plant/product.

Plants with high levels of THC will give you psychoactive responses which may make you feel sleepy, energized, confused, focused, relaxed or creative; depending on the plant strain and whether it is Sativa/Indica/Both(will discuss this in my next piece).

Benefits of THC

  • pain
  • muscle spasticity
  • glaucoma
  • insomnia
  • low appetite
  • nausea
  • anxiety

Plants that are high in CBD and low in THC (some are high in both) are generally used for medical reasons and have no psychoactive effects other than keeping the road rage away. CBD is the active component that fights Cancer/carcinogens.

Benefits of CBD

  • seizures
  • inflammation
  • pain
  • psychosis or mental disorders
  • inflammatory bowel disease
  • nausea
  • migraines
  • depression
  • anxiety

Once a plant that is carefully select is harvested people have various methods of extracting a concentrate that can be a topical cream, ointment, sweet, spray, vape oil, butter and various other consumables that help you ingest the goodness without smoking.

Cannabis should not be seen as a cure for a condition but more of an assistant to medical treatment. You should only use Cannabis for the above mentioned conditions with consultation with a medical professional.
