Ramaphosa Declares Coronavirus National Disaster

South Africa has now joined many nations in the world in taking strong measures to help slow the spread of the virus. The virus is most dangerous to the old, ill or people with weak immune systems. With many people in South Africa at a higher risk level it is upto our country and each person to help us protect our family, friends and nation.

This is no time to panic. It is a time to listen and act responsibly.

“Initially, it was people who had traveled out of the country, especially from Italy, who had positively tested for the virus. It is concerning that we are now dealing with internal transmission of the virus,” the president said.

â–ª Travel Ban from High Risk (Italy, Iran, South Korea, Spain, Germany, Uk, Usa & China as of 18 mar 2020)

South Africans are to Refrain from travelling to
â–ª UK/USA/Europe/China/Iran/South Korea
â–ª People who visited High Risk areas as of mid Feb – are required to come in for testing

South Africa has 72 ports of entry land/sea/airport
â–ª 53 Land Ports, 35 Shut down as of Monday
â–ª 2 out of 8 sea port closed for passengers
â–ª Non essential travel prohibited
â–ª Non essential domestic travel to be stopped

GROUPS OF PEOPLE
â–ª Limit contact groups of people
â–ª Gatherings of more than 100pax = prohibited
â–ª All mass celebration public holidays cancelled
â–ª Organizers to put in place stringent measures for <100pax events

SCHOOLS
â–ª Schools will be closed from Wed 18 Mar
â–ª Schools will remain closed till after Easter
(July Holidays shortened by week ?)

BUSINESS
â–ª Mining retail banking farming to introduce measures for hygiene control
â–ª Shopping Malls / Entertainment centers to bolster hygiene control

Citizens to Change behavior
â–ª Wash Hands frequently with soap + water or hand sanitizers for minimum 20sec
â–ªCover nose/mouth cough/sneeze with tissue/flexed elbow
â–ªAvoid anyone with flu-like symptoms
â–ªMinimize physical contact
â–ªUse Elbow greeting no shaking hands
